The Monthly Note

Before you feel ready

July 01, 2026•1 min read

Something I've noticed, in myself first and then in a lot of the people I work with: we want our lives to look different, but we wait to feel different before we take that first step.

We wait to feel ready.

Wait to feel confident.

Wait to feel less afraid.

And the waiting can feel productive, because it feels like preparation.

But it works the other way around.

For something to begin showing up differently in your life, you have to begin showing up differently too.

The action comes first.

And yes, it can look a little rough while you're still feeling unqualified, uncertain, or afraid.

Then the feeling begins to catch up.

I want to be careful here, because I don't mean that as criticism. I mean it as encouragement. If you've been waiting to feel ready, don't wait for some big internal shift before you begin.

Take one small step.

One thing this week, done. Before you feel like the kind of person who does it. Say the thing you'd normally leave unsaid. Ask for the thing. Go to the class even if you know you'll be the worst one in it.

Just start. Create some momentum, and the confidence will come later.

Talk soon,
